I got to see H.L. Richardson speak – wow. At 84 years of age, he is amazing, still. I did not know that Sam Paredes is H.L.’s son-in-law.

The attendance at this dinner was phenomenal and I took note of a Monument that the Knights of Colombus placed on the Church Grounds. The Catholic Church where the event was held was built in 1880, and the multi-use room was built in the 1940′s in my best estimation as Marysville has been repeatedly screwed by building codes, Sacramento budget cuts (all the money goes to LA and welfare) and the economy that the enviros have decimated…

The Monument said “Dedicated to the Children, known only to God, who died from Abortion”.

This is stirring in light of the presence of Doug LaMalfa and Jim Nielsen at this event and their roles in the attempt to decimate the Republican Party Platform.

Doug LaMalfa hung around the fringes of the room and attempted to introduce Bob Williams from Tehama County to people. Williams is a supervisor that Nielsen / LaMalfa recruited to run (along with David Stafford Reade) against Dan Logue to try and bleed him of money in preparation for a battle for LaMalfa’s Senate Seat. Jim Nielsen also stayed on the fringes.

This is only possible if LaMalfa beats Sam Aanestad.

LaMalfa spoke in generic terms, but did fine.

Don Logue was like a rock star as Yuba is his home county.

Jim Nielsen was bizarre at best – he rambled and then sounded like he was a revival preacher quoting scripture and the like. It was hard to sit through.

Of note – Sutter Supervisor James Gallagher was working the room. It is apparent that Team Reade/LaMalfa/Nielsen expect Dan Logue to stomp Bob Williams as they have been warming Gallagher up in the bullpen for a while. Expect that if AD-03 comes open – Gallagher is the heir apparent for that seat.

Of course, they tried that with Herger anointing LaMalfa, we’ll see if Aanestad has something successful to say about it.

The CA-03 Race was the real highlight of the night – the crowd was a decidedly Pro-Charlie Schaupp Crowd. He knew most everyone in the room. The sideshow was reserved for Rick Tubbs and his wife.

Kim Vann was present and did her best to meet a few people – but had to leave early with Dan Logue, Jim Nielsen and Doug LaMalfa for a Police Awards event somewhere in the area.

Kristy Tubbs was entertaining as she worked the room and Rick Tubbs looked like a used-car salesman.

Kim Vann had with her an accordian file of important papers etc. What a contrast in candidates – Vann is on a mission with her campaign in order and Tubbs is out selling cars.

Charlie Schaupp – he is so real, it is astounding. A Marine, in Yuba County…

… to be continued.

Best short speech: Kirk Uhler rocked the crowd with his short address.

Pam Tobin took suddenly ill and did not make the dinner. (Perhaps her liberal democrat activist consultant and campaign manager did not want to come to the dinner?)

Biggest Surprise: Robert Grigas is running against Jim Holmes in Sup District 3. Holmes left the GOP a few years ago because of our “divisive” stands against local tax measures. His Brother Mike ran against John Doolittle twice in the Primary. Grigas picked up support by virtue of being a Republican willing to file.

Best Long Speech: Shasta County Supervisor Les Baugh connected with the crowd bringing some North State Values down to Placer County. His speech was so good in fact that it caused…

The Worst Speech: Ted Gains. Obviously rattled by the connection his opponent for State Senate made, Ted attempted to envoke Tim Tebow to gain traction. Ultimately, it was the failure to string thoughts together that doomed Ted’s presentation.

Hello Again: Sam Aanestad is taking on the biggest fraud in the North State – Doug LaMalfa. LaMalfa’s popularity will be tested by Aanestad. That congressional district has a choice now.

Welcome to the Race: Linda Park – was the only candidate who got interrupted by applause mid speech. This was her first major address as a candidate for AD-06. (Beth Gains was ill and did not attend the Lincoln Dinner.)

Welcome to the Race part 2: Mark Wright also came in a suit and tie and made an impression on the crowd.

Honorable Mention – Rick Bosetti. Running for AD-01 which includes 1/2 of Placer Sup D5 – Bossetti decided to visit the Placer County faithful to introduce himself. I think he made  a good first impression.

Red Meat Award: I want some of what Dan Logue had before coming to the Placer Lincoln Day dinner – he was on fire. Les Baugh was charming and warm, Dan was on a tear.

Wally Herger gave his first and last address to Placer County as a Congressman. He was charming and gracious – Assemblyman Dan Logue presented Wally with an Assembly Resolution when he introduced him.

Notable Absences: Pam Tobin D-Granite Bay, Beth Gains R-Roseville/Rocklin, Doug LaMalfa R-Subsidy

You read it here first!

Sam Aanestad is making phone calls to generate support for a run against Doug LaMalfa for Congress.

There is no truer friend to Conservatives in Northern California than Sam Aanestad. Sam supported his mentor, Tom McClintock for Congress when Doug LaMalfa and 100 local electeds chose the establishment Moderate over now Congressman McClintock.

Sam Aanestad was rated the most Conservative Senator in California the year before he retired from the State Senate in 2010.

Doug LaMalfa has serious issues with Conservative grass-roots over his involvement in the Charles Munger-led Republican Party Platform drill for starters. Doug LaMalfa’s staff was involved in the attempt by Charles Munger to eliminate Conservative issues such as Pro-Life, Pro Prop-8 and the Second Amendment from the platform.

Second, the attempted coronation of Doug LaMalfa by retiring Congressman Wally Herger has also riled feathers all over the North State.

I spoke directly with Senator Sam so this news is real.

What am I talking about?

Remember how Abel Maldonado had to be confirmed as Lt. Governor because we needed him out of the State Senate and in the LT Gov chair so he could not vote to raise taxes again?

Remember how we needed to throw Sam Aanestad under the bus? Even though Aanestad is as flawed as any politician – he never raised anyone’s taxes…

How does that relate to the SD-01 Race?

Well – the Assembly, led by Martin Garrick tossed aside principle in the name of strategy to get Sam Blakeslee elected in a special election to the State Senate to follow Maldo. The Assembly Republicans voted as a block to confirm Maldonado to the Lt. Governor position – vacating Maldo’s Senate Seat so Sam Blakeslee could run for Senate – giving the GOP an “upgrade”.

Blakeslee returns the favor by refusing to sign the No New Taxes Pledge.

Now – another Republican who has refused to sign that pledge is running for office. Roger Niello.

If both Niello and Blakeslee are in the State Senate – there is no defense from another massive tax increase like the one in Feb 2009 that Niello voted for.

Think about it – the biggest sellout Republican, Abel Maldonado (whose campaign signs look like Obama’s) is now Lt. Governor in the name of having a better vote in his place, now Sam Blakeslee has bailed after getting what he wanted…

Garrick looks like a failure and…

Now Roger Niello and Ted Gaines are locked up in an Epic Primary for another State Senate seat.

Think about it.

Meantime – Republican leadership gets yet another Epic Fail and they are wondering why California is 21% DTS?

UPDATE: Click here to see official info on how everyone voted.

Abel Maldonado was confirmed today.

The Republican Leadership threw Sam Aanestad under the bus and confirmed Abel Maldonado for Lt. Governor.

The Republican Father of Harvey Milk Day and taxing Blueberries is now Lt. Governor.

Maybe this is why: Republican leaders have polling showing Sam Blakeslee in a big lead over John Laird to retain the Senate seat Abel used to occupy.

Polling. So what about doubling the car tax, jacking up state income taxes and hiking the sales tax?

Perhaps this is why: The Citizens Compensation Commission was reported to be voting on a proposal to cut 10% off legislators pay when they met next month. Speaker Perez  wanted to stop that from happening and made a deal with the governor.

Dems wanted to keep their pay, Reps wanted to keep hope alive in 15th Senate District… taxpayers of California? You lose again.

You have the makings of a backroom deal and Sam Aanestad goes over the side.

Tobacco Taxes, Socialized Medicine, Early Release of Prisoners, Open Borders – confirmed for Lt. Governor by the Republican Leadership.

Why is it that Chuck DeVore was the only Assemblymember to speak out against this vote, while the other 28 drank their Kool-Aid and voted YES?

Here is what Senator Sam Aanestad had to say.

Senator Sam Aanestad’s statement on the vote today confirming tax-raising Senator Abel Maldonado  as Lt. Gov

From Senator Aanestad: Today, the Governor and his politicians chose their Lt. Governor.  This June, however, Republican voters will have their say.

Voters can either choose Abel Maldonado, who broke his promise to the voters by making a deal in exchange for his vote for the largest tax hike in California history; or they can choose Sam Aanestad, who is endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and Congressman Tom McClintock because he has kept his promise to not raise taxes.

The choice is up to the people, not the politicians.

Sam Aanestad needs your help today. Contribute to his campaign, join him on facebook, and spread the word.  Sam Aanestad is the conservative choice in the race for Lt. Governor.
