Here is the text of an Email from Dan Logue:
Chico – North State Assemblyman Dan Logue today announced that he would be seeking reelection to the newly drawn Third Assembly District seat. Logue was originally elected to the Third Assembly District in 2008 and has represented the district for the past four years.
“Redistricting has caused many changes in the North State, but It has been my privilege to represent the residents of Third Assembly District for these past four years and I look forward to continuing to do so,” stated Logue. “I have had to examine where my strengths are and where I can be most effective for the North State by continuing to serve in the Third Assembly District seat.”
The Third Assembly District is comprised of all of Yuba, Sutter, Tehama, Glenn and portions of Butte and Colusa Counties.
Here’s what this means – the current AD01 Race is now tossed in to a tizzy. Brian Dahle from Lassen, Ted Owens from Nevada, and at least one more person from Shasta County are rumored to be jumping in to the fray against already declared liberal Republican Rick Bossetti.
AD01 – Siskiyou, Shasta, Modoc, Lassen, Plumas, Sierra, Nevada 1/2 of Butte and 1/3 of Placer. Dan Logue was to have moved to Lake Wildwood in Nevada County to run.
Regarding Jim Nielsen – sources have told this blogger that Gentlemen Jim is not running for his third term against Dan Logue – rather (in the opinion of this blog) Gentleman Jim is going to conserve his resources to run for State Senate against Dan Logue after Doug LaMalfa wins election to Congress.
There are two opponents to Doug LaMalfa – my friend Colonel Pete Stiglich and another guy from Shasta County that wants to split the vote with Stiglich to enable the third candidate to win. (Gotta love Republicans and their firm grasp on strategy)
Les Baugh is still running against Ted Gaines for SD-01.
Jim Nielsen has a fan club.
Don Bird is a 76-year old retired marine whose life mission has been to get Gentleman Jim thrown in state prison for living in Woodland outside the soon to be old 2nd Assembly District while running for office there. (That is illegal as there are different rules for state office versus congress)
Barry Clausen is another who has been a constant pain in Gentleman Jim Nielsen’s tail.
On one hand, I understand how it feels to have a psychotic, obsessed maniac that will stop at nothing to get me or my family thrown in prison over a political disagreement – however, Don Bird and Barry Clausen are not psycho nor are they lying about Gentleman Jim’s residency – in addition, to my knowledge, they have never said Jim Nielsen is getting investigated by the FBI over it, either.
Barry Clausen wrote an op-ed about Jim Nielsen’s mental state. It appears that the constant harassment over his double-wide in Gerber (where Nielsen is supposed to be living, versus the $750K home in a Woodland gated community) is indeed getting to Gentleman Jim.
I got multiple accounts of a public appearance Jim Nielsen made on behalf of Liberal Republican Colusa Supervisor Kim Dolbow-Vann in Lake County where the majority of his comments were about being stalked by a 76-year old man.
There was also talk about a vacuum cleaner salesman (who was visiting trailer homes in Gerber!?) and Jim Nielsen recounting a story about saluting Ronald Reagan… it all seems bizarre. Politics is bizarre 24/7, let me tell you.
Have you seen the recent STOP SB48 emails bearing the name of Doug LaMalfa and Gentlemen Jim Nielsen?
For those of you familiar with Jim Nielsen’s role in the attempted gutting of the 2012 CRP Platform – including eliminating any mention of a stand on “Homosexual Issues” – you’d wonder why Nielsen is suddenly interested in a referendum against forced Homosexual indoctrination of our children…
Allow your intrepid blogger to focus the issue. Occasionally a busted clock gets something right – this being the Capitol Resource Institute. We have highlighted the Capitol Resource Institute and their astounding conflicts of interest and connections to electeds. (In particular, Doug LaMalfa and Jim Nielsen)
Nielsen has been getting hammered – including by yours truly on the front page of the California Republican Assembly’s newsletter for his role in the attempted evisceration of the CRP Platform. Nielsen is obviously feeling the heat and the recent email from the CRI regarding their SB48 issue that is signed by Gentleman Jim is 100% a by-product of the pain the real CRA is inflicting on him because of his actions.
This is a by-product of reforming CRA, Nielsen and David Stafford Reade can no longer manipulate CRA – now they have accountability for their actions.
The CRI is 100% right to be leading the SB48 referendum – however, if this is like their fake Prop 8 site or the SB777 Referendum, they should be sued for screwing over California. The SB48 thing needs to qualify as the homosexual lobby has gone to communist extremes to force their agenda down people’s throats – if the CRI is simply using this issue to raise money, then they should burn in hell. If the CRI is serious and gets this thing across the finish line – I will applaud them as everyone else that values freedom and the rights of parents to educate their children should.
Nielsen? He’s a liberal that parades around his district as a conservative. His Chief of Staff – the ethically-challenged David Stafford Reade is on the CRI’s board of directors. There’s your nexus.
… and the Platform Fight? It has gone national – look here for One News Now coverage that features a quote from Real CRA President Celeste Grieg.

Ouch.
Jim Nielsen: The Poster Child for CRA Reform
There has been a ton of wailing and gnashing of teeth over the California Republican Party Platform recently and the CRA’s recent upheaval.
There is a connection now – provided to us by Moderate Republican Assemblyman Jim Nielsen.
Nielsen was endorsed by CRA in 2008 and 2010. One of those times, Nielsen was endorsed over current Shasta RA President “Colonel Pete” Stiglich. Another time, it was over retired Marine Colonel and CRA member Charlie Schaupp.
There are many that argue about Nielsen’s contributions to the Republican Party and about his Conservative record. A quick look at the 2009 and 2010 CRA scorecard shows Nielsen checking in with some of the lowest CRA scores this side of Abel Maldonado. Nielsen finished with 72% in 2009 and 76% in 2010.
Nielsen also made the motion to adopt the completely gutted CRP platform as proposed by the drafting committee. Despite Jim Nielsen’s attempts at spin control – people were there, people observed his votes against re-inserting pro-life and pro-gun language in to the platform.

By comparison – Assemblymember Dan Logue who was not endorsed by CRA in 2008 scored 94% in both 2009 and 2010.
How would a moderate who presided over the destruction of the CRP Platform, who voted to expand Mello-Roos taxes, who voted to tax blueberries, voted to put Prop 14 on the ballot, etc. Get a CRA endorsement twice?
The Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, South Butte, Yolo, Yuba CRA – that’s how.
The Sutter, Tehama, Yolo and Yuba RA were chartered by former CRA members in 2007 and maintained by them to control CRA endorsements in the North State. Currently, the Sutter RA is run by real CRA members, the Tehama RA (which is run by Jim Nielsen’s district director) is under scrutiny and the Yuba and Yolo RA were de-chartered for gross fraud at the 7/23/2011 CRA board meeting.
The Siskiyou RA and the South Butte RA were chartered in 2009 by the same former CRA members in order to make sure no endorsement would occur in a hotly contested primary. The South Butte RA is currently in jeopardy and the Siskiyou RA has since been taken over by real CRA members.
The Siskiyou, Tehama, South Butte, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba RA’s also sent college students as CRA delegates to the 2010 Buena Park CRA Convention to support Meg Whitman.
This is how a moderate like Jim Nielsen got a CRA endorsement – a string of dubious CRA units, including several that are proven frauds.
Jim Nielsen’s CRA endorsement is the most prominent case for CRA reform today. I am hopeful that real CRA members will lock arms in a common effort to reform CRA so that this kind of fraud and manipulation will not happen again.
(Note: Yuba did not have jurisdiction in AD02 – but the other 5 units provided the necessary delegates to override the other legitimate units in the district. In addition, The Glenn and Colusa RA abstained at the 2010 local CRA endorsing convention)
Update on the New Placer Districts
After reading Matt Rexroad’s comments about the results of re-distircting – I have determined the following:
1. The process was corrupt, but not as bad as if it had been done in Sacramento.
2. The GOP Registration is 30.9% statewide and falling, yet we have a fighting chance to maintain as much as 36% of the seats.
3. In-fighting within the CA GOP is as responsible for the results of these new lines as the commission was/is. This includes what many of you have been reading about on this blog for weeks. It is time to put a stop to it – which means:
4. “Leaders” within the GOP who avoid conflict at all costs, and others who are so self-focused that the facts are cast aside must also be dealt with or rehabilitated in to dynamic leaders. The GOP needs to stop waiting for the next Reagan while a generation of relative weaklings continue to shuffle the deck chairs on the titanic.
Assuming that these lines hold up after the flurry of lawsuits – here’s what I know at this time:
Ted Gaines is moving in to the new SD-01. The nexus for why Gaines / LaMalfa decided to team up in “attacking” the Placer Cent Com is certainly there as the two will be stuck with each other in the State Senate for 6 years. Placer County will represent a significant voting block for both of them.
LaMalfa has a clean shot at SD-04 for re-election in 2014.
Dan Logue has moved in to the new AD-01. He will get his third and final term from 2013-2014.
Jim Nielsen was a big winner – his nemesis Charlie Schaupp who came close (within 6,000 votes) to beating him in the 2010 Primary has been drawn out of that district. However, the nexus for the cheap shots against Dan Logue has effectively been removed as Nielsen and Logue will now live in different State Senate Seats – since Ted Gaines does not term out until 2020 and LaMalfa in 2018… that’s beyond eternity in Politics.
Beth Gaines – AD06. Only has to worry about John Allard, that is if her team can’t convince Allard to wait until 2016. Alyson Huber has already bailed out on running against Beth Gaines in a bungling filing for Congress.
Kevin Hanley – AD05, he is not a candidate yet. However, El Dorado County Supervisor Ray Nutting is. Nutting ran for Assembly against Rico Oller in 1998, and has wanted to serve in the Assembly since at least 10 years before that.
Wally Herger CD-01 – likely, Herger will retire in 2014. This would tee up LaMalfa for Congress on phase and set up the moderate Jim Nielsen vs a Conservative prop 14 cluster primary in 2014. Herger would support Nielsen.
Tom McClintock CD-04. Will Lungren stay in CD-07 now that it has been drawn to a D+1 registration district? Does Roger Niello run for CD-07?
The rumors are that someone is going to challenge Tom McClintock in the primary. They will get hammered as McClintock, despite his perceived flaws, enjoys huge popularity with the voters of both the old and new CD-04. (Which is the 2nd most lopsided Rep district in California)
What does Roger Niello run for next? He can win any of the marginal districts in Eastern Sacramento County – it should be interesting.
