UPDATE: Click here to see official info on how everyone voted.
Abel Maldonado was confirmed today.
The Republican Leadership threw Sam Aanestad under the bus and confirmed Abel Maldonado for Lt. Governor.
The Republican Father of Harvey Milk Day and taxing Blueberries is now Lt. Governor.
Maybe this is why: Republican leaders have polling showing Sam Blakeslee in a big lead over John Laird to retain the Senate seat Abel used to occupy.
Polling. So what about doubling the car tax, jacking up state income taxes and hiking the sales tax?
Perhaps this is why: The Citizens Compensation Commission was reported to be voting on a proposal to cut 10% off legislators pay when they met next month. Speaker Perez wanted to stop that from happening and made a deal with the governor.
Dems wanted to keep their pay, Reps wanted to keep hope alive in 15th Senate District… taxpayers of California? You lose again.
You have the makings of a backroom deal and Sam Aanestad goes over the side.
Tobacco Taxes, Socialized Medicine, Early Release of Prisoners, Open Borders – confirmed for Lt. Governor by the Republican Leadership.
Why is it that Chuck DeVore was the only Assemblymember to speak out against this vote, while the other 28 drank their Kool-Aid and voted YES?
Here is what Senator Sam Aanestad had to say.
Senator Sam Aanestad’s statement on the vote today confirming tax-raising Senator Abel Maldonado as Lt. Gov
From Senator Aanestad: Today, the Governor and his politicians chose their Lt. Governor. This June, however, Republican voters will have their say.
Voters can either choose Abel Maldonado, who broke his promise to the voters by making a deal in exchange for his vote for the largest tax hike in California history; or they can choose Sam Aanestad, who is endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and Congressman Tom McClintock because he has kept his promise to not raise taxes.
The choice is up to the people, not the politicians.

Adam Problosky is a pollster from Southern California who has been doing polls for several years.
The poll was touted by the Chuck DeVore for US Senate Campaign as a sign of strength for Chuck. It showed Campbell at 31, Carly Fiorina at 17 and Chuck DeVore at 14.
There is something called a sample when you do a poll.
When polling on a primary – you generally want to talk to people of the party in question. When polling – you typically ask likely voters.
OOPS – out of 751 Voters surveyed, only 272 Republicans.
All were newly registered voters in 2008/2009 – and are therefore not considered likely to vote in 2010.
Meg Whitman better not pay attention either…
Epic Fail.
Yikes! No wonder the change in strategy by Meg Whitman.

RE: Poizner Closing The Gap On Whitman
DATE: April 23, 2010
You Heard It Here First
We are in the final stretch of the campaign and the polls are showing exactly what our campaign predicted.
We have said all along that as the voters begin to focus on the two candidates for Governor, the mile-wide and inch-deep support for Meg Whitman will begin to collapse and support for Conservative Republican Steve Poizner will begin to grow. That is exactly what we see happening.
You will recall the Whitman campaign recently touting public polls that showed Meg with a 49 point lead over Steve Poizner, but they have remained uncharacteristically silent about the recent SurveyUSA poll which shows that her lead has been slashed by more than 50%.
The latest SurveyUSA public poll shows Meg Whitman’s lead down to 22 points, while other private polls conducted throughout California show the race even closer.
In reacting to the most recent Capitol Weekly poll, conducted over a week ago, pollster Ben Tulchin says the results show real trouble for Meg Whitman. Tulchin says that “[Whitman’s] ahead, but compared to other polling that’s out there, her numbers have dropped,” and that “she’s spent a lot of money and she’s under 50 percent.”
What We Expect Next
The Poizner campaign’s next prediction is that we will soon hear a chorus of Whitman spinners and campaign operatives proclaiming that they have always known the race would tighten, but that there is not enough time for Poizner to close the gap.
But history shows that there is more than enough time to close the gap and take the lead. As Californians, we’ve seen this scenario before.
In the 2002 Republican gubernatorial primary, Moderate Richard Riordan led Conservative Republican Bill Simon by more than 30 points with a little more than a month to go in the primary. In the last month, Simon overcame that deficit and ending up beating Riordan by 18 points. It happened then, and we will see the same results in this primary.
This race is just beginning and it will be an exciting finish.
Let’s get to work!
It will be interesting to see if history repeats itself.
Thank you Chuck DeVore for opposing the Abel Maldonado confirmation and for standing up against the Republican leadership in the Assembly. Why was Chuck the only one to oppose the biggest RINO in all of California? This seemed to be an easy one, but our Republican Assembly members just couldn’t get it right. All I can say is that it is about time that someone bucked the insane decision of the GOP leadership to support Maldonado!
Chuck DeVore did more than just vote no, he let the Assembly and all those watching know why Abel did not deserve confirmation. Senator Aanestad applauds your leadership and sends his congratulations from Orange County.
Now more than ever it is time for all Republicans to rally around the only conservative choice for Lt. Governor: Senator Sam Aanestad. Visit www.voteforsam.com today and show your support.
Assemblyman Dan Logue brought out a novel idea – suspend AB32 until California’s unemployment goes below 5.5%. AB32 is cap and trade on acid. You’d think that every Republican and a lot of Democrats would find that a reasonable solution with the state on the brink of fiscal collapse and unemployment approaching 21% combined.
Then there is Tom Campbell.
“Republican” Tom Campbell is getting beaten like a drum these days. He has supported a rash of tax increases over the years – including an obsession with raising Gas Taxes time and again.
When Tom Campbell wasn’t dreaming about taxing the internet or adding a value-added tax to our lives…
He was teaming up with Arnold to help feather a political legacy.
You see – Tom Campbell was the architect of two of the biggest expansion of spending in State history in 2005, later he applauded the signing of AB32.
AB32 is being used to determine what kind of TV’s we can buy and I recently had a friend tell me that he had to dirty the air for 300 miles of driving to go to Nevada to get the riding lawnmower he wanted. Why? The one he wanted was banned by the California Air Resources Board.
This is America! They have more freedom in France, for Pete’s sake (and loads of clean, nuclear power)!
Despite his current position on balancing regulations against job creation, Campbell has supported significant environmental regulations that critics claim will foist unnecessary costs on employers. In particular, Campbell has commented favorably about AB 32 and, while in Congress, voted for the Clean Air Act.
“ If you are inclined to make it [AB 32] work, you can make it work without hurting the economy,” said candidate Tom Campbell, a former dean of the Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley.
Let me translate this: “If you can ban TV’s and Lawnmowers and control people’s lives in a manner that does not hurt the economy – then we can make it work.”
Campbell, a former member of Congress, touts lowering business taxes and then imposing a carbon fee to encourage industry to slow its use of fossil fuels. The result would be less reliance on foreign oil, fewer greenhouse gas emissions and a neutral tax structure that would benefit the economy and environment, he said.
(the comments were excerpted from the San Diego Union-Tribune, October 5, 2009)
Tom Campbell is not a Republican – he doesn’t even think close to like one.
Campbell participated in a national Kool-Aid drink relating to clean air. The forefather of the onerous environmental legislation was brought to us under the George H.W. Bush administration:
Clean Air Act (HR 3030) – Sets air quality standards, mandates reduction in vehicle emissions, and establishes system of federal permits and enforcement standards. Y 401-21 Passed 5/23/90
With Republicans like this – who needs Democrats!
